The Letter You Sent

Plot Synopsis :
As a child in the 1960s, Ali Galal was sent from Upper Egypt to live with his uncle in Cairo. He made the long journey to visit his family when possible, but after marrying and settling in Cairo, the exchange of cassette tape recordings became his lifeline to distant loved ones and celebratory occasions, as well as the unique musical traditions of his home region. Over the years he developed a vast cassette tape library of personal recordings and local productions. Ali says that he wishes people wouldn't "disrobe their traditional gowns," adding, "I wish we'd keep the Aswan spirit a strong one, and dance, sing and celebrate to our own tunes and rhythms."
